Data & Account

  1. What are the requirements for the use of the portal?

    The use of the portal is reserved for companies exclusively. For companies based in the EU a tax identification number is required to use the platform. Requirement for the use is an initial registration in the portal.

  2. Can I save my user data?

    Yes, you can. Only the payment data has to be re-entered for each purchase of queries.

  3. What happens if I forgot my password?

    Click on the button "Forgot Password" – enter email address - click on the link in the email - enter the new password twice on the respective webpage.

  4. How can I change my password?

    Simply click on "My Account" - change password.

  5. How can I cancel my account?

    Simply click on "My Account" - cancel account.

  6. Will the documents be saved permanently?

    No, if you cancel your account, all data will be deleted. If you haven’t logged on to your account for more than one year, your account including all your data and queries will be deactivated automatically.

  7. What kind of payment types will be accepted?

    You may select between credit card payment via VISA and MasterCard, or via PayPal.

  8. Will I receive an invoice?

    Yes, subsequent to every purchase of queries you will receive an order confirmation and an invoice by email. A separate invoicing address can be registered during the initial registration.

  9. What do I do if I find an error?

    In this case, we would like you to inform us by email using the link "Contact" in the footer.

  1. What do I have to do if I lack information to some extent?

    A query will work only if all boxes are completed. If you are not able to provide all information required, a query cannot be conducted. If you fill in lacking information with other data (variables, estimations, assumptions) this can significantly distort the result.

  2. What do I do if I only know the trade name and not the botanical (Latin) name of the wood?

    Based on the indicated trade name the system will propose one or a selection of botanical (Latin) names, from which you have to choose one.

  3. What good is it if I know not just the country but also the region where the wood originates from?

    For your Due Diligence system this information is useful. For the use of this platform, this information is of no help. The queries are related to countries only.

  4. How long does it take until I get the results of my query?

    Immediately after you have completed all the boxes and submitted the query you will receive the result.

  5. What happens to my queries made?

    All your queries made will be stored in the system and you will have access through the portal.

  6. What do I do if a product consists of different types of wood?

    The query is species-related and not product-related. In case you have a product consisting of several types of wood (tree species), multiple queries need to be made.

  7. What do I do if I cannot find a tree species?

    The timber-risk.com© database is continuously being extended. In this case, we would like you to inform us by email using the button "report missing tree species" on the input screen. Then you should cancel your query or continue with another query and tree species.

  1. Do I need to do more than this query in order to safeguard concerning the governmental regulations of timber legality?

    Yes, according to the different governmental regulations you may need to have and apply an individual due diligence system. The sole query on this Portal does not meet legal requirements.

  2. Do I have to implement all recommended actions?

    No, the proposed recommendations in the output sheet are not obligatory.

  3. Will this query be approved by governmental inspection institutions in every case?

    No, this query will not be approved by governmental inspection institutions in every case. In conjunction with the obligations of due diligence systems of companies, this query acts as decision aid, but not as a guarantee of legality or as a due diligence system.

  4. Do I have to check whether the (delivery) documents that I have and extract data to use for queries with timber-risk.com© are genuine or fakes?

    The mere existence of documents is generally not sufficient to run a Due Diligence process. It is advisable that before you use data from such documents for your due diligence processes or for a timber-risk.com© query, that you make sure the information contained is true and correct. Such a review cannot be made by using timber-risk.com©.

  5. Who can help me, e.g. if I request for a supplier auditing on-site?

    GFA Certification GmbH conducts more than 1,000 audits per year in 37countries in the wood- and forestry sector. We would be pleased to help you.

  6. Has this system been approved by a government agency?

    No, as these systems do not require regulatory approval. The system was presented to the German Competent Authority (BMEL) before launching the portal.

  7. Does this system guarantee that I do not have to conduct any further steps?

    No, this system does not meet sole legal requirements for companies.

  8. Why does system submit proposals to minimize the potential risks that are unrealistic for us?

    The system cannot be calibrated to each individual situation; it works with a fixed selection of assumptions. If a proposal is unrealistic for your situation or product, please regard this proposal as obsolete.

  9. Who can give me further information on FSC® or PEFC - certification?

    GFA Certification GmbH is specialized in FSC and PEFC certification. We conduct more than 1,000 FSC and PEFC audits per year. We would be pleased to help you.

  10. Why doesn’t the system report key errors such as tropical timber from Canada automatically?

    Not all tree species present in the system have yet been assigned to geographic regions. Therefore, in individual cases it may occur that not for all tree species error messages are generated. Thus, we ask for your understanding and patience.
